CONGRATULATIONS to Cortez Rolle, Tamari Pintard, T’Avion Rodgers and Timothy Moss: four driven students, who are the proud recipients of scholarships awarded for the fall semester 2022 by Hutchison Ports FCP and Hutchison Ports FHC.
Cortez Rolle will be a freshman beginning his studies in Mechanical Engineering at Florida Memorial University. Cortez says that his long-term goal is to start up the Bahamas’ first automobile manufacturing company, producing primarily hybrid and electric cars. “Engineering inspires me to be imaginative”, Rolle says. He hopes to return home after completing his studies and advocate for the transition from generators to solar and hydroelectric power to lower the quantity of carbon monoxide in the air.
Tamari Pintard, also an upcoming freshman at Holland College has decided to study Maritime. Tamari wants to be a sea captain and ultimately open a new Bahamian-owned cruise line, further connecting The Bahamas to ports around the world.
T’Avion Rodgers is returning for his second year at The Florida Institute of Technology, where he is pursing a degree in Computer Science – Software Engineering. T’Avion says he chose this area of study understanding the great need for Software Engineers, globally, especially in the area of Trade. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic especially inspired him to focus on technological advancements that can progress the process of international trade at home, in The Bahamas.
Timothy Moss is a third-year student at Benedict College and is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a field he says he has been interested in since childhood. “I’ve always been fascinated by how they perform their unique duties: from the instruments they utilize to the machines they build,” Moss says. He hopes to find modern and innovative ways to contribute to economic growth on Grand Bahama after completing his studies.
Hutchison Ports Bahamas is proud to continue providing scholarship assistance to Grand Bahamian students.
Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of four (4) years for undergraduate programs. Awardees of the Hutchison Ports Bahamas Scholarship also have the opportunity to work for one of the group’s business units during its Summer Employment Programme, and possible employment following graduation if an opening is available.
